My wife bought me a LGE for Christmas. I had never heard of them! First I found this site and joined, read a bunch of posts and bookmarked a bunch of helpful sites.
Thought I would share some photos of my first use - Nothing fancy! The only mishap was the dual function metal top falling off when I opened the lid and part of it broke off....
While the meal wasn't fancy, my wife said it smelled like Texas (where she is from).
Tomorrow I will attempt a brisket!
Starting the fire: http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc429/smbishop/241.jpg
Heating to 350: http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc429/smbishop/243.jpg
Added some mesquite: http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc429/smbishop/252.jpg
And cooked some chicken: http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc429/smbishop/267.jpg

Smart wife you have! Can't go wrong with the egg. This is a great place for anything egg related. Chicken is a good choice for starting out. The dual function control might be under warranty for the 1st year. Welcome"The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. Let's see Michael Phelps do that" - Jim Gaffigan

Where in Texas is your wife from. Lots of Texans here.Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Just given another Mini to add to the herd.

Welcome to the forum.
To post a pic, read below. The way you did it using the URL tag, makes us click a few extra times. Nice pics
Photobucket will provide you a link with the path/URL to the picture. Copy that link, paste it in your post like I have shown below. Note, instead of typing imPg like I have below you want to instead type img (i.e. without out the capital red P).
I also would make the size 499, so we can see them better. You can change this (the blue number) to your liking.
[imPg size=499]http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc429/smbishop/241.jpg[/img]
Some people don't like photobucket, you may want to try Google's Picasa or tinypic.com.
This post by Gator Bait may help too. It provides detailed pictures of PhotoBucket site. -

Congrats and welcome to the forum. You will have lots of help if you need it. That is quite some info that Boston_Stoker listed. Have fun reading and cooking.Happily egging on my original large BGE since 1996... now the owner of 5 eggs. Call me crazy, everyone else does!

Welcome to the forum! You're gonna love it here... great people and great information.
Sorry to hear about the daisy wheel. You can take a piece of wide heavy duty aluminum foil and fold it down several times to about one and a half inches...then wrap it inside daisy wheel. This will give you a snug fit. -
I'll give it a try!Southlake, TX and Cowhouse Creek - King, TX. 2 Large, 1 Small and a lot of Eggcessories.

Boston_Stoker,
A nice complete list.... It's saved for future reference.
ThanksMarc -
Welcome aboard!
Definitely play around with the wood types and amounts. I have 12 types of smoking woods in my inventory. For chicken I prefer pecan with some apple mixed in. I only use hickory or mesquite (stronger woods) for beef. But as mentioned if your wife liked it you did good.
How did she know about the BGE? I would be very nervous about giving one as a gift if the recipient didn't know and want one. However, it appears to be a big hit!

Yeah... I remember when the inside of my egg was white.
5 months into it and I am soooo very happy to have bought my egg. I'm sure you will get a great deal of wonderful information from this forum and the awesome fanatics that frequent it!!!
Welcome and Happy New Year! -
That first picture is really cool. Love the colors.
Personally, I'm from South Texas and grew up with people using tons of mesquite in bbq. Its a weed down there and its the best way to get rid of it. Doesn't bother me at all. And if the wife liked it, ya did good.Rowlett, Texas

We just spent 5 days visiting her family down in Arlington. She is still talking about the 'smoked' chicken this morning, so the mesquite must have brought back memories.

Reading through the forum I discovered the solution to the metal top falling off (cause it hit the dirt in the garden one too many times) - line it up so the screw is at the front and points towards the handle or the vent. Hasn't fallen off once since! -
A lot of folks on here say they use their gassers to store their Eggcessories.
I was charcoal before I got my Egg. The day before my Egg was to arrive my next door neighbor asked if he could borrow some charcoal. Weird coincidence since he (nor anyone else) has ever asked for that. When he showed up at my door I handed him the bag and said "keep it all. I don't need it anymore."
My charcoal grill (a cheap one) was all rusted out (which was how I got in the market for an Egg) so I just put it out with the garbage.
