Springfield MA area eggers?

A friend recently told me about a Restaurant Depot type place in the Springfield area. He thought the name of it was Kittredge, but he wasn't sure. Said it was sort of a complex of warehouses; equipment, fish, MEAT, etc. Whole shoulders, whole beef tenderloins, briskets, etc. Apparently, anyone can buy there, unlike RD.

Anyone know of such a place? Do I have the name right? Is it worth the 50-60 mile round trip? If so, I gotta restock my vac bag supply!!!

Thanks!

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Haven't lived in MA in about 8 years and didn't make it over to Springfield that much but did a Google search and came back with this place in Agawam, http://www.kittredgeequipment.com/

Thanks, Keith. I should have mentioned that I had found that link. The site doesn't mention anything about food items though - just equipment. Guess I could just give 'em a call? Now there's a novel idea!

  • Hi,

I live in West SPfld and as far as I know Kittredge is only equipment. Let me know what you learn

I called Kittredge and, as their website indicated, they sell equipment only. They are open to the public though. They told me the place I was looking for was probably 90 Meat Outlet, in Springfield, not Agawam. Called my buddy back and he said. Yeah, THAT'S the name!" He's never bought from them, just knew there was such a place.

The woman at Kittredge didn't seem to think much of 90 Meats, meat quality wise, but I'll probably check it out after the holidays. Unless one of you Mass guys tells me it's not worth the bother. Not much of a website, but here ya go...

    Thanks!

  • Heres what I can tell you first hand about 90 Meat - I got a freezer full of whole chicken roaster, boston butt that my wife says is a steal. Perdue no less. I have picked up spoon roasts from them for 2/3 less than my local butcher and its not bad. 9.00 vs 29.00 and on a scale of 1 - 10 its a 7. Now for Xmas I went to the butcher shop.

I see this a lot at the Hilltop butcher shop, a local supermarket, all where the meat is at great prices...USDA inspected but no meat "grade". I gaurantee you if you ask there either is none or they won't tell you.

I'd stick to cuts of meat where it really doesn't matter...pot roast....

Are you talking about 90 Meats or Hilltop? Or both?

I'm saying I see the same type of advertised deals at the Hilltop and a local supermarket. No direct experience with 90 meats, but prices are similar....

I'm thinking it probably means similar quality meat...and it ain't great...

Again fine for things like pot roast etc....but I don't think I'd be buying ribeyes or T-bones etc...chicken, sausages, etc are probably all fine...

    Just my $.02
