Since the Thansgiving meal was so economical (ha ha), I decided to live it up for Christmas. Purcased the meat/poultry today - $175 give of take. Mind you, this will cover both Christmas Eve supper (and yes, we sup)and Christmas Day dinner (we dine on Christmas Day  ). I am so looking forward to the time I will spend with my family and can't wait until the whistle blows on Thursday!

We are having a Nueske's ham on Christmas Eve along with spatchcocked chickens....mainly sandwiches, potato salad, and finger foods. On Christmas morning - applewood smoked bacon, biscuits, cheese grits, and eggs. Christmas dinner is still in the planning stage - but we are having beef tenderloin, sweet potato casserole, GBC casserole, red velvet cheesecake, and pecan pie.

What is everyone else having for Christmas????

    Beef Rib Roast,E-Z cut ham,Turkey breast,sweet taters,sauteed mushrooms,7-layer salad,homemade rolls,chicken-n-cornbread dressing,pear salad,blackeyed pea salad,baked beans,mac-n-cheese,mashed taters w/gravy,chocolate pie,Karo pecan pie,peach bread pudding/w/rum sauce and whatever the other folks bring. ;)
  • I was fortunate to have won a 20# turkey from the local Grocery the other day. This happened only a day after we found out that the Free-run Turkey that we had pre-ordered had been forgotten about by our supplier and they had no more to give us!
I'll get a big ham too and that should feed about 20 family members.

our annual party will consist of the following this year... most things are made by us.

big cocktail shrimp - mini pizzas - puff pastry appetizers - mini brisket sandwiches - mini falafel pita - mini souvlaki pita - chicken wings - stuffed jalepeno - poutined hash brown - veggie tray - antipasto platter - sushi... I know I forgot a few things...

    plus drinks...

    it's gonna be a busy week :D

40+ people cramped into a tiny house... heat gets turned off about 5 hours before the party. wii bowling tournament, win lose or draw on my giant 4' x 8' white board ...we make use of all 3 floors and most rooms ;-)

I always tell people to dress light.
    context is important :)

2 geese (had to special order, so $$)
mac-n-cheese using Upland Farms special reserve, taleggio, asiago fresco, Parmigiano-Reggiano
Anson Mills grits, mixed with corn home vac-packed this summer
    root veg mash
    big salad
Brandied pears with peppermint ice cream
  • We host Christmas Eve and Christmas Day dinners. I've never calculated the cost since I always (knock on wood) have some extra money come in around the holidays. Christmas Eve we'll start with peel and eat shrimp, pizza bread, crab dip, vege tray for appetizers. For dinner we have a locally smoked whole ham, whole beef tenderloin, homemade spaghetti and sauce, mashed potatoes, pierogie, and ? along with a multitude of pies and sweets and for desert.

Christmas day we start with fresh fried calamari and smelts, then more ham, spaghetti, tenderloin, a capon, twice baked potatoes and more pies and sweets. Oh, and also some smoked salmon for an appetizer.

Christmas Eve will be around 25 guests and around 15 on Christmas Day. If I had to estimate, I think $350-$450.
  • I think we're going to have fondue (hot oil with beef and chicken). We often have that on the 25th. On the 24th we like to have a stew or soup of some kind.

This year my oldest and his gf won't be here til midweek between Christmas and NY's so we're going to have our Christmas then. So we won't really do much on the 25th this year, altho I still will prolly make soup for the 24th. We'll have the fondue when they get here and then we're also going to have a pizza party while they're here where we make a lot of crusts and guests bring the toppings. We'll fire up both eggs for that event.

We still have a turkey in the freezer so we'll cook that up one of these nights, don't know which yet. I'm not sure if we'll do it on the egg or in the oven. We don't use the egg much in the winter, but my husband likes to bbq turkeys.

Well worth every cent. Every year I say "I'm not doing that next year", and every year I do it all over again. I love this time of year - you my friend are going to have quite a spread. ;)
