Replacement Part for Maverick Redichek Thermometer

T Sizzle or Fizzle
edited November -0001 in EggHead Forum
I know this is sort of random, but I seem to have lost the clip for my grate thermometer that came with it. Any ideas? I need it pretty quickly as I am smoking a turkey on Christmas Eve.

Thanks.

I thought I had an extra one but I can't find it right now. I'll look some more and get back to you.

just lay it "on" the grid away from the colder meat
  • go to Radio Shack and buy a package of alligator clips. The grid prode will fit right in the end of it and then you can clip it on the grid or on the dome thermometer.

There is a number of things you can do. Tim

You can remove your dome probe and carefully place the pit probe in the hole where it will be and in the dome. What i'm saying is the pit probe has to fit in the hole in the dome of the egg and hang down in the dome. Be sure when you do this you can get the pit probe back out of you might destroy it and you don't want that.

You can also drop the pit probe down through the daisy wheel if you are still able to control your egg.

When using your plate setter place your pit probe on the grid about one inch from your food/meat and place the cable out of the egg where the leg of the plate setter sets. This way the cable is never in direct line of the fire below. Note; when doing this you will need to make the pit probe stay so consider placing something small on the grid (perhaps a chunk of brick) in order to place the pit probe on it (the object you chose can be wrapped in foil).

Below is a company I have purchased from. I own and use the BBQ Guru CyberQ II and love it. I use it on occasion when I have an over night or all day cook where I do not want to attend the egg often or worry about my cook. The second link is sold by them as well it's an alligator clip that fits on the end of your pit probe and clips perfectly on the grid. Note; I suggest you take your pit probe to Radio Shack and buy an alligator clip that fits on your pit probe the only difference is BBQ Guru's clip is in the shape of the grid in the teeth. No harm getting more than one just in case.

The third link is by BBQ Guru as well and I also have this and use it on occasion. It works great and can hold multiple probes.

One final note. When using your pit probe on the grid you will get a cooler temp than up in the dome at least for a time. Example is when I cook a Boston Butt indirectly I set my dome temp at around 250F but at the grid or cooking level the temp may be 10-25F degrees cooler for a time.

Go to Walmart, Radio Shack or any automotive store and buy some alligator clips. Squeeze the clip neck down so it tightly slips on to the probe. Don't crimp the neck while the clip is on the probe or my may ruin the probe itself.
