I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

hahaha. I have to admit that I sometimes have two Pearl quarter pounders.

But I do NOT pour a gallon of chili on either of them!

dont know much about the varsity but my favorite hot dog stand closes year end after 80 or so years in business, a sad time. foot long deep fried in a secret mixture of meat lards and vegetable oils, wrapped in white american, sitting in a butter fried split top bun, with kruat and mustard on the bottom, chili on top. place was bult on the sidewalk, dont know how many banged a knee cap on the hydrant indoors as the line moved thru.

Randy,I got some homemade.I put it in the food processor and pulsed a few times to get it into small pieces.I made it this summer and it was in large chunks.Live and learn.I can't wait to try it tomorrow! :)

Fish, so get the secret recipe!! If he's closing up shop, he might as well tell his loyal customers. Then you can tell US. :) Though it doesn't sound very heart friendly, does it?

I hate it when these old favorites close their doors, or maybe worse, change ownership. There are three in my Virginia hometown. Carl's Frozen Custard... Hasn't changed since I was a kid. Best soft serve ice cream on the planet! Recreation Center hot dogs - they don't hold a candle to Pearls, but still a local institution. And still the same after all these years.

And then there's Allman's BBQ. Used to be an AWESOME Q joint, but they might as well close now. They've changed owners so many times, it's just not the same. Had some last week and it just ain't what it used to be. Dried out butt and flavorless sauce. Sigh.......
