Hi All,

I decided to try some experiments on the egg today, as my sister is making her very first turkey, for 8 whole people.

So I made Pumpkin Bread (Joy of Cooking), Apple Crisp (This website), and Apple Pie (Joy of Cooking). And since I am experimenting, I made an Egg version and an Oven version of each item.

Egg version on the left, oven on the right.

Going by smell alone, I think that the bread and crisp came out well, and it will be hard to tell them apart. But I think there was too much smoke when I did the pie, and it might be too much. We shall see.

And I will report later.

I would rather cook for 8 whole people than 16 half people any day......and 8 whole people will probably respond better..ya know them half people dont speak real well...LOL

    Hey Wess,

I know that 16 half people ain't no fun. But we were supposed to have 30+ whole people here at the house, and the wife decided to go to NJ because all of her brothers were going to be there. And I work retail, so I could not go :(

And I SO wanted to do a turkey this year. Double :(

On the other hand, the pumpkin bread came out well. Unlike earlier experiments, nobody could tell the egg'd bread from the oven'd bread. So I call this one a success.

Dinner ran late, so I never took my pie or crisp over to my friends for dessert. But just tried the crisps, and they both taste fine. The pie has a bit more of the "egg" taste vs. the crisp, the pumpkin bread none.

    Either way, I'm happy.

looks good..was this also a psychological experiment? 1st two egg items on the left... faked out with 3rd on the right ;-)
    context is important :)
  • I love seeing the word 'experiment' in any post title! Curious to see if you noticed a lot of difference between the oven/egg versions. Baked a couple of rhubarb pies on the egg and they came out great. But I couldn't tell you how it compared to an oven version. A great experiment. Please keep us posted with the results.
