As long as it stayed frozen, it will be safe to eat. -RP
-
i would think it is ok too. for quality you probably wont notice a big difference unless it is freezer burnt. i have had turkeys in the freezer for 6 months and cant tell any difference. hope that helps
-
Safe----Yes as long as it stayed frozen the whole time. Quality
Maybe not so much. Defrost it slowly and check for freeezer burn. If it looks good, brine it, and cook it up. If it's burnt might want to use it for stock. -
Bring it camping,,, Poot will eat it
Also if it's freezer burned it might make great crab bait
-
it is literally safe for an indefinite period.
food safety and food quality are two different things. properly frozen, even the USDA is clear on this: forever SAFE
now, if the package is breached (torn, etc.), the flavor and appearance can suffer (freezer burn, off flavors, etc.). but that isn't a safety issue anyway.ed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante -
Thanks to all, you have confirmed what I thought.

Give it to Mikey, he will eat anything. Should be ok Jim if there is no freezer burn, which it should not when pack in Cryovac.
-
Jim -- I egged a frozen one last Saturday. It was 11 lbs and it took 7 1/2 hours at 325. It was really moist and tasty too!

I have eaten a year old frozen turkey on several occasions - but I cooked it first.

Thanks to all that replied I very much appreciate your help. Great advise for sure and since the in-laws will not be in attendance KayNOcook wants a newer Turkey, Yes Dear is all I could say. But I will cook the old bird from the frozen state as that is something I have never done before and is now on my bucket list, just have to wait for the inlaws to visit.
Thanks again for all the help.

Dale, how did ya get the neck and giblets out of a frozen bird and what was the seasoning process?

After about 3 hours it was thawed enough to pull the giblets and neck out. That's when I oiled it a little and added some seasonings.

Thanks Dale,
