With so many butchers close by I don't normally buy my steaks from the grocery store but when I saw this one I couldn't pass it up.

I may have even proposed to it

No front or end sear just grilled at 450 on the small with the gratemates

and pulled at 125,,,, this one was good

 -
Pat, looks fantastic! I have a few butchers nearby, but they are small in quantity and high in quality.
Especially Petty's (maybe you heard of them) - serving beer (free) while I'm shopping.. -
yes we have 2 petty's close by along with 1/2 a dozen mom and pops. The original Petty's is here on babcock st. I'm guessing you shop the one in longwood near Orlando?

Yes sir.
-
Pat, that is one nice lookin steak!
Too bad we didn't get a photo of a slice......you must have been in quite a hurry to devour that cow.
-
Yes it was just too good to pass on but I still prefer the mom and pop stores for most meats.
-
That's a great looking steak! I picked up a couple of filets at Fresh Market this weekend and plan to cook them tomorrow night - marinating in "Garlic Expressions". Should I stabilize at 450 degrees for the sear?
-
Rebecca,, once the knife hits the meat even the dogs leave the room for fear that I'll growl at them. Can you believe I had some good friends trying to call and bother me while I was eating? If they were not such good friends I might have put the dogs on them but I think I was very polite
-
That's what I'm talkin about..I been havin porterhouse withdrawal...and you just sealed the deal...gonna cost me at the meat market..LOL..
-
elzbth, If you are going to sear get the temp close to 600-650. Do a quick search for TRex or for reverse sear xeRT. Another option is hot tubing. This one was big enough that I just did a straight grill and still had a little crust by the time it got to 125.
-
My goodness Pat, don't your friends have manners? You are the comsummate gentleman!
:cheer:
 -
Now don't you go blaming that on me Wess  I was actually picking up toppings for pizza when it just jumped into the basket. HMMM,,, how big of a crust would you need for almost 2 pounds of steak?
-
Me?? Oh yes,,, I am,, at least I am when I don't have food in front of me
  -
I'd say that's a big ole chunk of moooooooo right there!!! I just started going to Publix and am very impressed w/ their sale items and seafood/meat dept!Hunting-Fishing-Cookin' on my EGG! Nothing else compares!
-
The only thing that would have been better was if they had them in must sell counter which is just wet aged.
-
