I'm Grilling in the Rain...

The meat has been purchased, prepped, rubbed and ready to throw on a slow and low egg, only problem is the forecast is now calling for rain (and thunder and lightning). I don't have a fancy dancy outdoor kitchen area like some of you and would like to go forward with the cook, any suggestions? Do I need to worry about the rain that will be coming in from the top? Will the rain affect my temperatures? Thanks.

No worries. At lo n slo temps, the top vent will be virtually closed anyway so rain won't matter. The egg doesn't care what the weather is; hot, cold, rain, snow, whatever. Just stabilize at your desired temp (I assume 250°?) before you put the meat on and you'll be fine.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I'm cooking a brisket here a few years ago and the rain didn't bother it at all.

I've since built my Chicken Coop and don't have that 'rain' problem any more. Even so, The Egg doesn't know what rain or snow is.

If push comes to shove, place your rain cap on top of your daisy wheel.

You mean these things work in the cold & rain?

Ha... You've been around long enough to know that Big Green Eggs work when people and machines won't.

A little rain or snow or hail or high-water (within reason) doesn't slow them down unless it slows their owner down.

When it's raining, I put an 8" flue cap over the daisy wheel. It's large enough to accommodate most vent openings and keeps the rain out of the BGE. Good luck.

It's an evil rumor. Started by a southerner to make us up here in the frozen north feel guilty if we don't put on 27 layers of clothing so we can egg in January. Imagine how the Canadians must feel!! :P

Ron, my friend, great postl! Except you forgot the AR. Also, I think the Stoker would be better since you can actually cook from your iPhone... yes, REALLY! Not sure, but I think I heard that it will even wrap the butt in foil when it's done.:lol:

My next butt is gonna be in a flower pot with none of the above! Will definitely post pics of THAT one. OT, of course. hahahaha

dont worry about the rain, the egg will hold temp. might be tricky to light if it is really coming down, but dont stress about it, it wont even know it is raining!! Goodluck and enjoy!! B) :cheer:
