OT - Comcast's Free Norton Security Suite
Spring Chicken
Posts: 10,255
I've been a Comcast customer ever since they took over Roadrunner a few years back. I've been pleased with their service but I always preferred to purchase Norton Security over using their free McAfee Security.
Now Comcast has switched to Norton and I can download up to seven computers with Norton Security Suite for free.
So I'm doing (actually just finished) all three of the computers here at the Chicken Ranch.
If any of you are Comcast users you may want to take advantage of their offer, expecially considering the recent malware report below.

My computers are clean even after visiting the archives a few times. So Norton must be doing a good job.
You're welcome.

Morning Spring
I've been a fan of Norton's since the dark ages and agree that Comcast's offer is hard to beat. The only thing I might add is that Norton's, as great as it is, is not perfect. Photobucket recently recommended Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware . Running the free version of this software turned up 19 items that Norton's hadn't found. I still am a big fan of Norton's and it runs on my machine 24/7 but now I also periodically run Malwarebytes program.
Have a great day,
Gator

Leroy, I am not much of a Norton fan. About a year ago Kim sent me an email with an attached file asking me if I could open it. I just assumed it came from a trusted source and tried to open it. Needless to say we both had the same virus. I was running AVG free virus software and it immediately found the virus and removed it. Kim was running Norton and it also found the virus, but instead of removing it, it gave instructions of how to go into the registry and do massive editing to remove it. We ended up having to take it to the geek squad to remove it. -RP

I run AVG and Norton on my computer at home and have had good luck.

You Mac users, oh so smug....
If Mac ever gets more than 10% of the market share in the world maybe they will enjoy more the efforts of the jackasses writing these things.
Just a couple...
Twitter Malware Attack Targets Both Mac and PC
Trojan masquerades as fictional MacCinema software.
... it is nice to know that Mac's can run Windows too.

Larry you should not be running two at the same time.
Just a thought...

Used Norton from day one (Norton's Day One) and up through well past Symatec's buy out of Norton. At some point all the great tools and enhancements got so cumbersome in the system it just took up too much resources and way too many nag screens. I also got tired of the yearly subscription fees. Comcast eliminates that part of the equation.
McAfee is continually running scans which really slows the system down for a long time.
I like Randy's suggestion. Avast is another good program and TrendMicro has some pretty good software.

You're right, Grandpa. If the number of Mac users increased a lot, the virus writers would target us too. So,.......I'm torn. I want folks to realize how cool Macs are, but I don't want a massive exodus over to Macs.
I have the best of both worlds.
I run most of my apps under OS/X, but there are 3 apps that I run under Windows (on my Mac). I like the Windows version of Quicken much better than the Mac version, so I run that under Windows. I have a weather station that uploads to the internet, and it's a Windows only program, so I run it there ( http://willsononline.com/weather ), and of course, my Stokerlog that tracks my Stoker BBQ for my Egg.__________________________________________Dripping Springs, Texas.Just west of Austintatious -
I feel left out. My pc's won't run mac software, of course I haven't seen anything mac I have wanted or needed to run.
Just razz'n ya my friend. The loaded power mac's and the larger loaded notebooks are pretty cool. I have seen some really fast 3D Rendering done on the power mac's.
I once had a mac, of course it was the first mac back when Woz, Job's and Gates were still snot nosed kids.
The only thing that really interest me is the facial recognition software available. That is pretty cool. I haven't looked for it but haven't seen it on the pc side of things (at a price that one would want to spend).
