XL that's had multiple cooks with lighter fluid

A buddy of mine is looking at buying an XL BGE that's been seldom used by someone that doesn't know how to use it.

If the lighter fluid smell will not go away, the egg itself is worthless.

Do you all think that smell will ever go away?

I would think with time and a couple of high burns it will go away... if the price is good enough to reflect that i would go for it.

That's what I would do. Have the vendor do a high temp burn and see what it is like after that.

That is how I got my medim for $100.00 including the nest. The guy did 5 cooks with lighter fluid.

I tried some hi-temp cooks (well just burns as the smell was so strong) that helped, but what REALLY fixed it was scrubbing it with a strong baking soda mixture and a stiff brush. Then rinse very very well. 1 hour of cleaning and rinsing I had zero trace of lighter fluid.

    Great bargaining chip.

I wish I could find an idiot who screwed up an egg and couldn't cook on it! It feels like its almost time to expand the egg family.

I'd make the guy an appropriate offer. If the seller doesn't appreciate the fact that his cooker is now of questionable value, pass on it....
