I've put my egg together and ...... ??
The Egg from Oz
Posts: 17
Hi all
I've finally gone out and purchsed a Large Egg.
I put it together on Sunday and noticed that the dome is not 100% flush with the base.
It looks like that the one side of the dome lid is about 4-5mm smaller than the base - so that when I feel the inside of the egg (through the hole in the top) after it has been attached - it is flush in most sections - except the left where the dome is "inside" the base by about 4mm.
Has anyone else had this problem? Does it matter?
Also - I assume I could tighten the upper band in order to move the dome (lid) to the left (looking at the egg straight on)? That way I might be able to even it up so that it just hangs 2mm inside on eiter side.
The only concern I have is that the gasket is als slightly inside the egg (the part of the dome surface that is "inside" the egg). I assume this section will burn off?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Thanks.

With the lid down, loosen (don't undo) the bands. The lid will settle into position, then re-tighten the bands. (If it needs to be aligned a bit better, do so before retightening). This whole procedure should take you less than two minutes.
If there is still gasket left inside after this procedure, yes, it will burn off with your first firing. -
I would trim off the part that in inside the egg. A razor blade, or an exacto type knife will work just fine. Good cookin to you. Miles out.

You are talking a little more than 1/8". If the dome is over 1/8" on one side and under 1/8" on the other side that is an adjustment issue. I am talking about the ceramics not just he gasket.
However, if you are saying the dome is a different shape or size than the base (all the way around) then you should talk with your dealer and or BGE direct. You need to make the decision of what you are happy with. Again 1/8" is not a big difference.
