I've looked for Royal Oak at Lowes, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Pleasant's (a local hardware store), and a local saw mill. Lowe's and Home Depot have Cowboy Brand for $7 for 8.8lb. Patio and Hearth Shoppe (the BGE dealer) has BGE for $24. His price just went up. Any suggestions on where to find Royal Oak or anything else except Cowboy (Whiz gives it an average rating)? I haven't been to Target or K-Mart yet, but I'm not having much hope for them to stock it.

Publix has that Duraflame Lump that I have heard good things about. I have found Royal Oak at Piggly Wiggly for cheap. If that doesn't work, maybe you can get some guys in your area to go in together and get a pallet of Wicked Good or something like that. A few of us went in together and got a pallet of Wicked Good shipped and all for about $15/ bag.

No Piggly Wiggly, Publix, or Restaurant Depot in the area. There are other Egger's here. The dealer at Patio and Hearth Shoppe said he has had a big run on Eggs lately. Midlothian Eggers unite!

Not sure if you have GFS stores where you are but they have 20lb bags of lump for $11.99. As a disclaimer, I have not used it yet. I usually get BGE lump from my dealer for $17.99 a bag. I'm going to try the lump from GFS though.

I use Cowboy all the time. Unless you are doing lo-n-slo it works great. I haven't tried it for lo-n-slo, just going by what I have seen on the Forum previously.
  • 500,

Try ACE hardware, they carry it year round in my neighborhood. About $7 for 10 # last fall. They told me they could order it if they were out.

I would call Royal Oak and ask them where their lump can be bought in your area. I think the number is 678-461-3200.

    Good Luck,

  • Maybe check some mors Wally Worlds. I know Academy Sports has the B&B brand but I have not used it nor have I heard good or bad. Good Luck. I figured you might have run over to Ocala to check things out.

I have used Cowboy in the past and it did fine. I just hear a lot about people finding plywood scraps in it.

Try looking at grocery stores. Shop n saves around here has ro cheaper than wally world. I've been getting Fire King 20# for 9.99 at a small grocery store here. I've heard Kroger sells lump also.

Cowboy works just fine IMHO. It does not have large pieces and burns faster than some, but as far as turning out good food, it is fine. I use it because it is much easier to get than anything else and have never had propblems, even on lo-n-slo cooks.

In fact I give it extra points for easy starting and quickly getting to a clean burn that you can cook on.
  • We recently split 2 pallets of Wicked Good that were shipped to Nashville and even after factoring in gas to drive up from North Alabama to pick mine up it was about 16.50 per 22 lb bag. Definitely the way to go.
