Lost power this morning at about 4:00. Off all day and just came back on around 19:00 or so. Rain and wind all day and nastey. Good thing the Egg laughs at Gustov! Fired it up and as really wasn't in a mood to do any complicated thawed a few yard bird quarters, hosed them down with a little lime and rubed under skin with my bird with addition of some smoked "Death Pepper" powder from a friend. Some olive wood for smoke and indirect at 300 pit till done. With rain and wind didn't use electronics just pulled them when done. Power came on right b4 finnished and wife made a pan of coen bread and fried some fresh okree from the garden.
Note the geese in the pic and h20 standing in pasture.

Now that's what I call a "grandmother approved" meal...fantastic looking chicken, cornbread and FRIED OKRA!! Ooooheee, that's some chow. Way to show that Tropical storm who is boss.

I tried to cook something tonight and couldn't get the temp above 150. Even had the vent wide open. Still couldn't get it above 150. Did have quite a bit of rain though, maybe that had something to do with it. :woohoo:

Holy cow, is that at your house?
Walt -
Yep about 20 feet from the side door. Hell of a rain storm.
-
Mike, Hope it didn't make it into the house!! Everything under control there?

Did you notice the :woohoo: in the original post. Here is another photo, nothing to worry about.
Just a broken base I had sitting there. Thinking about making it in to a planter. Just a low spot that fills with water on any significant amount of rain. My real egg is off frame on the right and is high and dry.
I found out later that while taking this photo a tornado was passing within a mile of the house. Glad I didn't know that at the time. tornado, TORNADO, WHAT tornado? :pinch: -
JL,
Glad to hear that you and D are OK. Food looks great--I saw the ribeyes and chiles from the other day, too. Got some catching up to do now that things have smoothed out, will drop you an note shortly.
Got some yardbird to do today, too--been doing the quarters ever since you recommended it over the parts, and haven't looked back. I'll try to do a whole one soon, but the kids like the drumsticks, and they only have two to fight over on a single bird -
I see you know how to fry that okra just right! Stone ground meal I take it?
Looks great.
