-
doug, scrapple is a Philadelphia area staple, essentially a corn meal mush flavored with pork fat & various unmentionalbe pork parts, it's mainly cut, fried & served as a breakfast meat in place of bacon or sausage, or in my case, with bacon, it's still homemade by the Amish in Pennsylvania - & the "Habberset Your Table" was the advertising jingle back in the 70'shappy in the hut

Sounds good Zippy, but you had me at unmentionable pork parts(those are my favorite)
 :woohoo: I will look for this.I love trying new stuff

Jim, I don't know if it can be found outside of the Philly area, the Habberset Company was in suburban Philly forever until they were bought out about 20 years ago by some meat packer in the mid-west, they continue to make it with the same recipe, but I don't know if they sell it anywhere but here, I would try their website, I am sure it can be shipped, & I do sympathize with your wife, if you grew up with it, you NEED it :evil:happy in the hut

DUDE,
you are killing me here........ i am 3000 miles away from the nearest pack of scrapple.
had a buddy overnight me some about 10 years ago but have been jonesing since then.
anybody outside the delaware valley region doesn't know anything about it. thanks for the salivating memories............ -
i wonder how the ABT's would be if you stuffed with Taylor pork roll?
Another right coast treat that taunts me........ -
Slotmercenary, you read my mind, & we do enjoy Taylor & scrapple on alternating weekends. I was looking for a way to ship the scrapple & stumbled upon this site, apparently they ship Habberset & Taylor, this'll satisfy the jones'n :P

I though Cracklin and Scrapple were the same. I just Googled them and they are very different. Scrapple sound like something I need to try it.

Grew up outside of Philly and my folks occasionally would buy a hog in Lancaster and throw the parts into the freezer. We had pails of scrapple for years - I threw out the freezer in the mid-70s and found some dated from 1952. But scrapple is too sweet for me, particularly fried and with maple syrup on it. Personally I prefer haggis . . . same concept except lamb parts and oatmeal are the main ingredients. Hmmmm. . . were the real thing not illegal in the US I bet haggis would make good ABTs!
-
Not really sure about the scrapple, but I really do like the way that you skewered the ABTs vertically so they weren't sitting in grease. It looks like the most delicious fooseball table I've ever seen!
-
well done zl... i do scrapple and cornmeal mush on the egg regularly... i have posted once or twice about scrapple and most are unfamliar with it and posting scrapple makes slotmercenary homesick
