abt's & egg addiction

We got our egg about 3 weeks ago and my husband is driving absolutely crazy. Yesterday he cooked (2)6lb butts. They took about 22 hours, why I don't know. He had our alarm clock set to go off periodically during the night to check on the temps. Then this morning when he woke up he spent the morning tending to the "egg".
The butts were finally done around 2:00pm. He foil wrapped them and put them in a cooler with newspaper and wrapped in towels (which he heats in the dryer on high for 20 min.'s). Then he shredded the meat and we never got to eat dinner because he ate so much meat while he was shredding it, so we never got to have dinner. Oh well, I thought at least we're done with the egg today. But a little while ago, around 10:30pm he says "Honey, I could really go for some abt's, I'd like to have them with some of the pulled pork". I'm thinking, "you've got to be kidding me". So, reluctantly I assembled 36 abt's and now he out cooking them. He had to clean out the egg because he used all the charcoal from the butt cook. This is getting to be a little much, I don't feel like we have a life anymore. I hope this is going to slow down, I'm thinking it's new and he's excited but I'm really burned out. Has anyone else experienced this after getting a new egg. We bought a L egg and now he's crying that he wants and XL and regrets getting the L. He's really lost it because it's only the 2 of us and he's just cooking to cook. I can't even eat another abt he had me make them for breakfast, I had to cook them in my oven because the egg was in use. Just thought I'd share this with everyone.

Abt's are done and I have to admit they are delicious. used the pulled pork that hubby made today. He recommened that I drizzle a litle bbq sauce on top of the pork before I put the bacon on and it's great that way. I take back most of the things I said. :ermm:
While my husband was eating the abt's he informed me that he's getting a stoker and possibly a weed burner. This is getting to be quite an expensive deal. We're at around 2K right now. Yikes!!

My wife likes the fact that she doesn't have to cook much anymore :)

    The bad news:

Egging is addictive and once you start it is nearly impossible to stop. Lots of accessories to tempt you and negatively impact the budget. Low'n'slow cooks which need tending are common. Cooking multiple dishes at the same time or in a row is routine. Cooking more food than you need for 2 people is almost required.

    The good news:

Once you have the major items then your egg-related purchases will slow down considerably. The gadget fad wears off a bit after the first few months. Remote thermometers with alarms and DigiQ / Stoker will help you sleep through the night. You can freeze the leftovers and eat them another night when you don't feel like cooking, or better yet give the extra food to neighbors and friends which will love you even more for it.

And just for the record: ABTs are my favorite dish so far. I stuff them with ground sirloin, spices, and hot pepper cheese before wrapping with low-sodium bacon. I can easily eat 10-20 in one setting, and sometimes do in lieu of a meal.

First of all, HE needs to learn to do his prep work and cook and clean up :) that is a solo job! You are making it way to freakin easy for him :) Welcome to egging. I would get him a mini. and a platesetter and a pizza stone. Check out the great web sites of the members on her. But with a mini he can only cook so much and burn a tiny bit of lump and it is perfect for two. We just got one and love it 4 burgers fit fine. Or a med or a small. LOL have fun and enjoy your egg. and you get to cooking to. it is fun and easy. Julie

    reelgem,

That is too funny. I got my first egg 11 years ago. I have added four more over the years and just about every toy available. If my wife were to answer your question it would be an unequivocal "no".
    It's not a grill...it is a lifestyle.
