Has anyone tried Jack Daniel's smoke chips??

Byrdman,
If you would like to try them, is there an Ace Hardware, Wal*Mart or BBQ's Galore near you that carries the BBQr's Delight smoking pellets? If so, they come in Jack Daniels barrel wood also. Wal*Mart carries the "single-serving" packs, where Ace and BBQ's Galore carry the "10-serving" packs.[p]TNW

Byrdman,[p]I have the JD chips and like them. I use them with beef mostly, roasts and jerky. They give a mild flavor (oak barrel) with some flavor from the JD also. Give them a try.[p]Chuck

Byrdman,[p]JD wood chips are from the oak barrels that were used to store JD during the aging process (the barrels can be used only so many times and, at some point, must be put to pasture - chipping them for use as smoke flavoring is better than just throwing them away).[p]The smoke is a strong flavoring with both the oak and JD flavors adding equally and can easily get a bit overbearing in taste. It works best with stronger flavored meats like beef (stronger flavored meats hide the smoke flavor), but when used sparingly (smoke very early in the cook - as the Egg comes to cooking temp), JD chips can add a different dimension to any meal. An almost closed fist full of well soaked and dried chips will do the trick. Consider mixing JD chips with other smoke flavorings. Sugar maple (a very mild, sweet flavoring) works well against JD chips.[p]Not a wood flavor that I reorder very often, but one that is a necessity in the spice cabinet.[p]Spin

Byrdman,[p]Use them often. You can purchase them at Wal-Mart, rather inexpensive.[p]Rick

I (hic) did my part in making these chips available to the publick buy consoomming some of the flavor-giv'n mosture that was originally put inside the barrel to preserv its oak character istics. I can (hic) attest tou itss vondarful phlavor enhanxing (hic) val ue as smok'n would.[p]Sprang chick'n

Spin,
They can only use the barrels once...After that they are used for furniture or sold to Tabasco for the pepper sauce...and of course, CHIPS

Big Daddy,
I have to second your opinion JD chips are almost the exclusive wood that I use. I occasionally switch to hickory or applewood. So JD drinkers of the world unite! and keep me in a steady supply of wood chips :>)[p]H[p]

Byrdman,[p]Yes they are good and worth it. Its not necessary to order them, though. Just look in your yellow pages at BBQ places near you and call them and ask if they carry them. Most of the BBQ places around me carry them as does Wally World.
