Dale's Seasoning

Bought home a bottle of Dale's steak seasoning yesterday and was shocked when I tasted it. Should have read the nutrition facts label, as the salt was almost overwhelming. I see they're now offering a reduced sodium blend. How do you all use this stuff?

Thanks, Rascal

    I don't..

    Dizzy Pig Raising the Steaks..
  • I have used it for steaks and know some people who use it on chicken. If you want to try it, use it for a marinade for a few minutes prior to putting on the grill. I always thought it was way too salty if you left the steaks in the marinade for more than a 5 minutes. Many people will marinate for over an hour.

I have made the switch to DP rubs for my steaks and like Celtic Wolf, do not use Dales anymore.

    Hope this helps

I use it often...I take a sponful and rub it on my steak shortly before grilling then hit it with Raising the steaks...makes one awesome steak, as you said, it is strong so use it sparingly until you find what you like..it's kinda like soy sauce on steroids... :)

I do use it as a marinade but I will do 1/2 cup Dales and 1/2 cup white wine. It cuts the salt way back.

We bought some years ago when a bunch of people in a bbq newsgroup swore by it. Had pretty much the same gag reaction   that you did. Ruined a flank steak, it was so salty.

I don't know whatever happened to that bottle. I think we just threw it away because I never used the stuff again.

The ONLY time I use Dale's is with wild duck as a marinade. After soaking in cold water, I will marinate in Dale's for a few hours - tends to help tenderize and pull whatever game-iness left after the H2O bath. I guess all that sodium is good for something!
  • I've used it on wings and won't do it again. To me I'ld rather make my own than use the salty stuff as you say... For pre-made marinades I've really only used stuff for wings to make things easy. I use major hot sauce brands for hot wings and various terriyaki for those that can't stand the heat. Other than this you can mix various spices in various quantities like:

    Cumin
    Garlic
    Onion Powder
    Ancho Chili Powder
    Black Pepper
    Kosher Salt
    Orange Juice
    Worsteshire
    Limes
    Tequila or Bourbon.

I use the above in all sorts of stuff and just mix it in a ziploc and marinade. My $0.02.

If I use it, the meat doen't stay in long. It can be very overwheling if you leave a steak in it too long.
