At Atlanta EggFest(2005)- Dr. BBQ smoked some bologna, real simple recipe but I forgot the recipe. I think it was rub w/ VOO, sprinkle on your favorite rub and cook it !!! What's the temp and am I right on the rest of it ?

    Steeler Fan,
I did some a bit ago. I cannot stand bologna unless it is fried. I had a snort of his in Atlanta and had to do that one myself. You'll want to pretty low temp ~250 range indirect heat or your probably burn the outside of it. When I did it the outside was a tad crispy and it had a wonderful flavor, as far as I can remember it was around 3-4 hours that I cooked it.

    Steeler Fan,
    You gotta be kiddin, right!/?
You guys aren't talking about bologna, the slimey cold cut with the red plastic band on the edge? Who in their right mine would want to eat that stuff much less go through the trouble to cook it on the egg.
    Egged bologna , what's next? :)

Tiger tony,[p]Don't laugh till you have tried it. Smoked bologna on white bread. The recipe is in his first cook book.[p]John

hummm....let's see.... Honey, what are we eating tonight for dinner?
Oh, I thought I'd throw a couple of slices of bologna on the egg.
I just can't figure out whether or not I should cook it direct, low and slow or use the plate setter and a raised grid.

Tiger Tony, just remember to take off the red wrapper, tastes much better without it. In addition, you gotta have some white bread. Place a slice of bologna carefully on the bread, gently fold over and take your first great bite. Follow this with an Iron City Beer and you have Happy Hour, and Appetizer completed. Then follow with some pasta and garlic butter snails and dinner is complete.[p]

JM3, Thanks, I looked in his latest book but it was not in there. Now I know where to find it.
    Thanks,

Tiger Tony,[p]See you have to think outside the bun (where have I heard this before?). Besides the recipe is an entire chub not a few slices. It's a beautiful thing. Taste real good. I had a some fresh off the egg last year at Eggtoberfest. You'd be surprised how good it taste :-)[p]John

Tiger tony,[p]Next I guess you could try vienna sausages or even SPAM. Dang I get the heebie jeebies just thinking about smoked vienna sausages. Bologna would be like prime rib compared to that. :)

    EggRacer,
I'm with you on the vienna sausages. To me they are only fishing food. A ziplock of saltines and a can of those critters and your good to go. Heavy on the crackers and light on the sausages.[p]Hmmm I'm wondering.....coat them with your favorite rub and then smoke em a bit for an appetizer.....[p]Call them stubbies?

dhuffjr,[p]I tried vienna sausages once and they were not good.
Now grilled Spam is some great stuff.
