OT: Camping Accessory, "Bonfire Light 'n Go"

This past weekend some friends were camping at a nearby lake, we spent a day/evening visiting them.   They had an item that I found to be just brilliant, might be common knowledge to some, was new to me...  a purchased log with six slits cut all the way thru the center.  Give the self starter wick thing a light and get a nice fire for a couple hours, log burns from inside out.  After seeing it in action and pondering the concept, I kept thinking why has no one done this before, it just works so well.  No wood gathering or fire tending required (good and bad points to that).

I've seen those but never seen one lit. That's a pretty cool idea

i like the idea but where i camp i just bring an aerosol can of start and go and a match. fire is lit in less than 30 seconds

the real genius move here is stapling a length of rope to a single log and charging ten bucks for it.

More so, for me, are the slots and resultant inside-out burn pattern.  The one I saw in action was efficient at providing a consistent flame for a couple hours.

At work we have a tree crew. When they cut down trees with rotted centers they slice them and leave in the yard for people to take.  They work very well and look like a volcano with flames shooting out of the top.
