My wife and I have a saying that puts our unique twist on a worn-out phrase.
””Dirty wife, happy life.”
(edit: or alternatively, as she just reminded me, “kinky wife, happy life.”) -

(edit: or alternatively, as she just reminded me, “kinky wife, happy life.”)“There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body.”

What did I want? I wanted to enjoy a Christmas present. That’s all.....Please allow me to explain.
First we have to back up to Christmas. Friends of ours gave us a unique gift of an hour long session of live piano music by a accomplished local piano player since we have a baby grand in the house. They thought the wife and I could plan for a romantic evening at a time of our choosing. Immediately I knew the perfect evening: Valentine’s Day. I told her I made the executive decision that is when it would be based on his availability. This was a really cool gift, I thought. But then it started.... “Of course we can not keep this to ourselves”, she says. We have to have that couple over to share the private concert. Then she says we should have a small party and double the play time on our dime. “It will be fun” she said.A few days later I reluctantly agree and I say ”I will call/email everyone.” She scowls at me. WTF was that look for?? A discussion ensues.Result: custom invitations:So now we are “all in”: custom invitations, a trip to the wine store for a couple cases of wine, a couple cases of beer, a trip to party city for some decorations, the appetizers, the racks of lamb, the tri-tips, all the sides, a day of PTO to prepare, the piano needed to be tuned “in case”, and lets not forget that we are going to pay the pianist for another hour of play time.Happy Valentines Day to you and Merry Christmas to me.ughh.....--------------------------------------------------

@Sea2Ski - always remember, "No good deed goes unpunished!" At least the guests will enjoy since you are doing all the work. Dang...Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

We’ve dwindled celebrations/expectations to home cooked steaks and roses from Costco. I’m fine with that.Albuquerque, NM - LBGE and an old rusted gasser that I use for accessory storage.

@Sea2Ski
Did I miss our invitation?
I absolutely understand the situation, as we have had a similar event.
Bless you my friend.

Peace and quiet, a wonderful evening with My Beautiful Wife, thanking her for putting up with me.
There really should be more days for this. I am a very fortunate man.
Hope everyone enjoys the day."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

Just be quick on the trigger when the reservation window opens and then bring a few credit cards to cover the experienceLouisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

About 3 weeks ago I tried to get a reservation at ANY restaurant in San Antonio that costs at least $100/plate. None were available. So we’re going to Saltgrass Steakhouse. Saving me money. And no, eating anything at home on Valentines Day is not an option. SWMBO sees dining at any place that has table service as preferable to any meal in any private home no matter the quality of the food.

A note on the celebration of Valentine’s Day and more broadly, on love....
Personally, I am not a fan of doing anything particularly special on this day. Valentine’s Day has become a commercial holiday, whereby the demonstration of affection has the potential to be perceived as purely obligatory, cheapening any actions one might take to demonstrate love for one’s partner. At its core, love is more accurately a verb than it is an emotion. “Loving someone” is about taking action that demonstrates your feelings for them moreso than the emotions you feel themselves. My approach is simple - show affection (e.g., flowers, shopping excursions, romantic dinners, doing helpful things for the in-laws, etc.) frequently and throughout the year at unexpected times. Do so, and not only will your partner appreciate these acts far more greatly, but you will not need concern yourself with the fanfare associated with Valentines Day. -

Talk to *any* chef and he will tell you it's the worst day in the year to go to a restaurant. Service and quality will be sub-par. Go the day before or the day after.
