Smokin Yard's BBQ, Idaho Springs, CO ... and a ghost town picture

SWMBO spotted a sign proclaiming BBQ in big letters as we drove through Idaho Springs, CO in search of ghost town stuff. After discovering that most of the old prospecting and mining buildings were inaccessible to the public on pain of guard dogs, we went back to the BBQ place and discovered Smokin Yard's. They had some of the best oaks-smoked St. Louis ribs we've ever tasted, lovely stuff. There's a full write-up on my blog linked below, including when the owner (Scott Yard) showed us out back for the full operation:
The three meat selection - ribs, links and brisket ... the picture really doesn't do it justice tbh:

Their own homemade sauces, wish we could have taken some home to the UK:

The smoking unit outside:
The one building we could photograph:

Glad you found some good BBQ in Colorado. We stayed in Breckinridge for 2 nights, and the BBQ options were terrible. It was about craft beers and microbreweries! Checked out of the resort and drove to Dillon CO. Encountered same thing there. Had to come back to Kansas to get some good Q!

Picture looks like an old mine right outside of Creede.

I looked that place up, the mine shaft there is really impressive. We'll add it to our next trip. Do you know of any other decent ghost towns in CO?GrillSgt said:Picture looks like an old mine right outside of Creede.

St. Elmo is said to be the best preserved ghost town as the buildings are still intact.Stormbringer said:
