Newbie's first 2 grills

Last Saturday, used the BGE for the first time. Made pizza using the same recipe and temp that I've been using for years in a conventional electric oven at 500° for 7 min per pie. Delicious, and not burnt.
Today, grilled filet mignon at 500°. However, I've never used a thermometer before today on a grill. Bought a Weber iGrill 2 and set the probe for medium (140°). At approximately 70°, I flipped the meat. Probably beginner's luck, but I'm now 2/2.
Have been reading many posts, as time allows, so I could learn from your experiences. Particularly to the heavyweight BGE users/contributors on this forum, I thank you for sharing your invaluable knowledge - much appreciated.

Brushed on EVOO over thin-rolled dough, sauce, oregano, 1/2 mozzarella cheese and 1/2 extra-sharp yellow cheddar cheese - simple yet delicious, less is more.

LOL … SamiAm2, do I feel stupid - a baked potato, believe it or not, will be my latest challenge tonight (want to see how my iGrill 2 handles it). And, of course, with steak.
This is an entirely different way of grilling for me based on time/temp. So used to lifting up my old grill cover 101 times, even for a simple burger - trying to gain a bit more confidence with each cook on the BGE by staying away from its cover handle. -

You may have a kindred spirit in England: @Stormbringer has a blog talking about cooking to temperature instead of time as he used to do. Check him out.Ubi panis, ibi patria.

SamIAm2 said:See nothing wrong with learning how your new tools work and loosing a baked potato is less costly than burning a whole load of lump to learn how to set and maintain temperatures. Just don't bend the probe going into the tater
Still, pictures of the steak will be welcome.

Nice way to start! Welcome“There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body.”

SamlAm2, thanks for the heads-up regarding ease of bending the probe if you tried jamming it into the potato. Drove a nail into it first to get a pilot hole - this BGE is becoming addictive.
Stormbringer, thanks for the working link - good article.
