OT: Any No Limit Texas Hold'em players
Purging the house, came across a stash of unused poker stuff I picked up while working through school around 2005, WSOP's peak.
Was going to CL it, but thought about hosting a poker night, firing up a pit for Q, and throwing a little money around for fun.
Wouldn't have such a problem filling the table, and some of my buddies are organizing a campground bbq comp this Summer. I thought about bringing this stuff along for a tourney, and being a bbq judge.
I loved watching WSOP in its prime, have played it barely enough to understand the basics. A beautiful, strategic game, on par with one of my favorites, 9-ball.
Anyone have any recommendations for home play, amount per buy in for chip colors, beginner info sites....or free, safe, online places to play for a rook. Thanks

I would say 6-8 people per table is optimal to start out with. 10 is about max. As far as the buy in, make it whatever you want and give each player X amount of chips. Could be equal to $1000 even if the buy in is only $20. Think of the chips as "units." Determine how you want to split the pot (winner take all, top two 60/40 split...). As far as sites to learn on, I can't help with that. I am not great, but I learned by playing.Las Vegas, NV

My buddy played online in college. That's how he made his rent money when going to school. Math has always came naturally for him. At one point he was ranked number 1 online for some type of betting odds that ranked players. (Far from a professional player but good enough for rent and groceries in college) Now he's into the ponies. The few times I've gone with him to the track he's won a few hundred bucks each time. He than walks down to the poker table and puts it all down on one hand. Both times he's doubled his money. I'll lose $20 bucks and call it good enough."The pig is an amazing animal. $100 buy in with blinds going up every 30-45 minutes. Weeds out the stragglers and keeps the game moving at a reasonable pace. No limit...Large BGE - McDonald, PA

Thanks a lot guys.
I'm with ya @RedSkip and @Battleborn,
Was thinking 6, a smaller buy in, timing blinds, playing two games in a night instead of one, spreading the money around to two winners.
Definitely no limit, is there any other way?BrandonQuad Cities

@Focker 2 tables with 12-14 guys @ $100 buy in is a nice purse. One game as for the # players will drag it out. Doubt you'll get two games because most folks don't want to lose $200 for poker night.
Top three get payouts? Maybe top five? I'd make payouts dependent on the number of players.Large BGE - McDonald, PA -
Here is a link to a blind structure calculator that is helpful:

I may or may not have spent the majority of my senior year of college and all three years of law school either running a game or playing in a casino.
I still get a game going occasionally when SWMBO will allow it. Typically 6-10 players. We play $40 buy in with one rebuy within the first 4 levels. Most of the guys aren't experienced so $80 is about all they want to spend. That allows them to enjoy playing and not worry about going out too soon.
My structure is 25 minute blinds with blinds doubling every level. Chip count is as follows (you could do the same with your setup just denote a color to a denomination):
10,000 chips
8 - 25 chips - I'd suggest your Greens
8 - 100 chips - I'd suggest your Whites
2 - 500 chips - I'd suggest your Blues
3 - 1000 chips - I'd suggest your Reds
1 - 5000 chips - I'd suggest your Blacks
You could certainly leave out the 5000 chip and mix in more 500s and 1000s. I start blinds at 25/50 but you can do 50/100 depending on how quickly you want to play. I would "color up" the 25s after level 4 and the 100s after level 8 or 10 depending on players remaining and structure.
Payout is dependent on players and rebuys. If 9 or more total entries then 3rd gets money back and 1st and 2nd split the remaining 70/30. Any less than that 1st and 2nd split 70/30 or an agreed upon amount.
Hope this helps! I love the game and hate it usually gets lumped into "gambling" like other games that require zero skill and are based on set odds. Good to see others enjoying it.________________________
