complexity is the enemy of reliability.....too many tiles, too much risk of the unit not performing or appearing like a reliable cooker over time.

am I missing something here....are you buying a decorative flower pot for 6 grand or a smoker/grill?

If your into the decorative flower pot thing, then I guess "go ahead", I myself would rather more cooking room. One can buy a Stumps Stretch XL for 6,100 and its just as pretty. See cooking capacity on a 6,100 dollar Sretch XL...

crazy idea... what if we each got to spend our own cash on the stuff we enjoy, without asking internet strangers what they think first??

i guarantee i overpay for stuff anyone can find for ten cents at a yard sale.  and other people probably throw piles of money at stuff i wouldn't give a nickel for.

kinda what keeps us from all being the same boring guy.

    indeed...

    to each his own....
    $106,500,000.00 for the below....

And it can't even cook burgers what a waste

It is hilarious - or really sad - to look at the Craigslist photo of that pathetic cooker and then see the description "They are far superior in every respect to the Big Green Egg..."

I remember being told something similar when i got my first egg. Not knowing a damn thing about ceramics, charcoal to use, or different egg models and sizes i jumped right in and bought a used egg as my very first and that was a huge mistake. I remember the seller ranting about the amazing cooks and this and that. It was sold as a Medium to me but was actually a Small egg. Found that out after the daisy wheel i bought new for it didn't fit and i had already drove 4 hours round trip to pick it up and bring it home. It smelled like lighter fluid and charcoal and the hinges didnt work and i eventually sold it!

Since then i have eggducated myself and know what rotten eggs to stay away from...

To each is own.  The broken up Kamado that you are referring to has nothing to do with the Komodo Kamado.  They were terribly built Richard Johnson units.

Just for for the record I would never compare the KK to BGE especially on an egg forum.  I respect all brands and would never take that approach.  I love the Kamado and as long as it cooks and you are happy with it, that is all that matters.

For me me it came down to what I really wanted.  Being a unit made from refractory cement, food grade silicone gaskets and indestructible firebox is what drew me to the Komodo Kamado.

Dennis has been in the business for almost 15 years now and he is constantly modifying his cookers. I have yet to see a warranty claim required for a KK.

The he tiles are not an issue with the KK as Dennis uses an elastomeric grout that flexes with the heat expansion.  The grout prevents any tiles from popping.

Someone else said said it best.  This is a hobby and we all like what we like.  I had an option of getting an offset smoker but it just wasn't for me. The food that comes off of it is incredible but I don't want to be gathering wood etc

yes these are pretty flour pots but after cooking on various Kamado cookers I can honestly say that this was one of the best purchases that I have ever made.
