Wegman's (RO) lump $.60/lb (Maryland)

My wife dragged me into a Wegman's this weekend in Columbia MD.  The redeeming feature of the trip (besides marital harmony of course) is I've been on the lookout for a decent price on decent lump, and I knew that Wegman's house brand is made by RO (same a BGE0). Their lump was on sale for $5.99/10 lb.   It appeared to be on sale (part of a big outside display of charcoals and related stuff), but I'm not sure if this is a special price or not. Nothing is inexpensive in my neck of Maryland (the Baltimore-Washington-Annapolis area), but this was the best price I had seen so far this year.  I bought RO at home depot last week at $0.84/pound (their regular price, so I was happy to overcome my wife's "you are buying HOW many bags   :o "  and buy enough to hold me for a while.

FYI I stopped in at one of the few Maryland retailers of Rockwood (Ace hardware in Edgewater), which was $1.30/lb as was BGE.  It was the first time I had seen Forestlump, which was ~$1.50/lb.  Naked Whiz gives forestlump their top rating (highly recommended).  It is beechwood lump from the Balkans...a far way to ship lump!  That Ace is also an Egg dealer as well as other smokers, so they are clearly trying to be a BBQ/smoker center.

Sounds like a special at Columbia, although the regular price at my Wegmans (Hunt Valley, MD) is $6.99 for that 10# bag, so even at regular price it sounds like it's a better value than the RO at Home Depot.  I've actually had better luck with the Wegmans brand over the regular RO.

Plus, Wegmans is the best grocery store in the country.  We drive 20-25 minutes weekly to do our major weekly shop.  Can't wait until one opens 10 minutes away this fall.

Wegmans lump is 6.39/lb regularly at my Wegmans(Frederick). It started off at 5.99/lb and has only crept up a bit.

I echo ACN. Wegmans is always one of the top employers in the country and their commitment to their employees is one of the biggest reasons they are also the highest rated grocer in the country.
