OT We kept Ounces instead of Sheppard's Pie and Sausage Rolls???

Back when we were all BRITISH, our King George decreed that we as his ROYAL subjects were to use the Imperial system of measurements, and we obediently did as we were told.  Then, 239 years ago on JULY 4th we gained our independence, shedding the confines of all that was British... not really.

We continued to use Britain's ODDBALL units of measurements for some reason.  In the 1970's when the Brits had the good sense to abandon their own flawed system - yet we still continue to use it.  I mean, come on, Ounces can mean volume or weight??? How drunk was the Brit who came up with this genius idea?

If we wanted to keep a remembrance of the oppressive motherland, why not SAUSAGE ROLLS??  Maybe sausage rolls are just too delicious.  Or maybe a measurement system that is based upon 1/10ths is just to simple.

While I'm poking fun at us for our system, I think Canada is even more challenged, since they use a blend of both.  In the GREAT WHITE NORTH, you drive 100 kilometers per hour and buy gas by the litre, but you are 5'10" tall and weigh 175 pounds.

Oh Well, Happy Friday  Saturday.

Yeah, thanks - I lost track of time while supervising my brining, but I've corrected it now for all the sticklers.

  • The NASA uses the metric system...

It is 24C outside, the pool water temp is at 80F and the egg/oven temp is 350F
  • in the uk, you buy gas in liters, but road signs are in miles, IIRC.  your speedo shows mph.  the weatherman was telling us temps in celsius, windspeed in mph

you buy beer by the pints, wine in milliliters.

you weigh yourself in stone or pounds, but everything else in kilos

i wouldn't say the US is the 'only' country that doesn't have it together, unit-wise

Our speedos are in both. Meat is sold by the pound and the Kg, products are labelled in English and French just so we don't offend anyone.

I've spent half my life in each  - Canada and the US.  I enjoy stirring the pot with either side.  In Canada you purchase your Canadian made Cabinetry in inches.  In America you purchase you're American fabricated granite in cm's.

Lot's of funny inconsistencies to go around.
