For all of you out there with custom cast iron grid's, where did you folks get yours?
I am thinking about getting on for my dad for fathers day...otherwise, any ideas for some unique BGE items?
I have seen the BGE salt and pepper shakers and candles and some other knick knacks but wondering what your thoughts are.

In my opinion, and I suspect I am in the minority, CI grids are way overrated and do nothing to enhance flavor or texture of food cooked on them. Great Seer Marks indeed.....
Do you already have a Thermapen? -
I'll second the Thermapen suggestion, that is if he doesn't already have one.
-
o yea...thermapen is a great idea.
He does have a probe but not sure about an instant read. -
I may be in the minority...but I don't care...I like my cast iron grid! OTOH getting a custom one cast and to you by next Sunday is probably pretty iffy time wise! You might send Spring Chicken an email - he has a steel one that was cut with a laser. HTHRe-gasketing America one yard at a time.

Ping Molly Shark and she can set you up with a Thermapen. Maybe plan ahead for Christmas on the custom grid. Great gift!

this place has some ideas, im a fan of stainless grids over cast iron but a custom cast iron grid is a nice gift

I got mine from Craycort at http://www.cast-iron-grate.com/Knoxville, TN

Thanks for the additional info. I figured i would be pushing the deadline for the cast iron but would be a sweet little addition for looks i guess.
My dad and i both have a medium...half ways wishing i pnied up for a large for the better accessories or just wish that the boys at ceramic grill store made those adjustable rigs for the mediums...o well.
maybe i should just buy another egg! -
I'm pretty sure he makes a "woo" for the Medium. It doesnt have the full incremental adjustability of the "rig" but is the same principle and a darn good accessory to have. I have woo's for my eggs, not rigs and am happy.

Leroy got one recently. Ask him where.

My Sweetie got this one for me a few months back. She had it made by Texans Barbecue & Catering in Willis, Texas, just up the road from here. (936-890-2100)
It looks a bit different now but still cooks the same, even better.
Popsicle showed off his custom grid at the Plano Fest and got everyone's attention. He lives in Willis and knows the guy who makes them. Here's his:
He said it is the only grid he uses now.
It would be a nice gift for sure but if I were you I'd probably get him a Thermopin for now. You can always get him a custom grid. I don't have a clue as to the cost.

I have one of those too. Only used it twice so far. But I have it if I ever want to use it.
