Ugly steaks at Sam's
AZRP
Posts: 10,116
For years now we have been buying "Ugly Steaks" from a local butcher. They are indeed ugly but have an intense beefy flavor and like to be cooked well done. I was in Sam's the other day and found them labeled as "Flap Meat Tray". There was enough in the package to vac seal several meals. Give them a try, I think you will be impressed. -RP

Dang! Never heard of em, but the name is fitting. I will be on the lookout for some.

Hmmm... Looks like some nice marbling there. Do you marinate or just rub? Is the texture at all like skirt steak? Thanks!~~

looks like it would make a killer burger, coarse grind! twww.ceramicgrillstore.com ACGP, Inc.

Now that I'm going to look for after hearing so much about it.

I just salt and pepper them and the texture is like a skirt steak. I've tried cooking them medium rare, but they just taste better a little crispy and well done, kind of like bacon. -RP

We thought so too Tom, but were not impressed with the burgers. I ground about half of it, much better cooked whole. -RP

Just came from Sam's, beef flap tray was $5.98 lb. -RP

I will be looking for those on my next trip.
Has anyone been able to find Prime at Sam's?BrandonQuad Cities

Not sure I could buy a steak that I had to cook well done. Not passing judgement just me. I don't eat beef that often but when I do I'll spring for a really thick cut New York or Ribeye and cook it Pittsburg rare. The high temps achieved by the Egg are perfect for this. But hey, I'll try anything once. Maybe I'll ugly up and see what happens!

You lost me at 'well done'. Can't do it. I used to frequent a place that had right on the menu the statement "We cannot ensure the quality of any steak cooked more than medium". I've always agreed with that.

Asked and they looked at me like I was stupid. Even laughed when I showed them the picture. Guess that 30 minute drive down to restaurant depot isn't so bad. Last time I was there the manager had his guys go empty the trucks until they found the cases with the whole prime ribeyes.

Pray tell how you make it down to RD in only 30 minutes Dennis, lol. How many speeding tickets through a construction zone do you have?

Okay maybe 45 minutes. My only ticket on I75 was further down the road in the cut of the hill.....driving to Louisville when I was treking down there taking Seminary classes no less
