I've got 16 people coming over for Thanksgiving. Using the mad max approach, what's the biggest turkey I can realistically cook on a large BGE?

A "search" will reveal all the info you should need..

I have done a 25# bird once, had to remove the dome thermometer. I try to find a 23# or less bird and that has worked fine.
If you play around with your setup that will give you some more vertical room.
Store bought turkey pan with BGE V rack works great. If the bird is big I will use the Spider and a little less lump.

Kent,
Nice looking bird! I have done 28# but I have a low profile pan with a trivet in it. Have to take some fat out of the pan with a bulb baster during the cook.

That's good to know. The V Rack puts the bird up quit a bit above the pan itself. I wanted quite a bit of liquid below the bird only because I didn't scorching and didn't want to have to go out and check it all the time.
I have to go get a bird for Sunday and will try to find a 28#'r. They are surcharging for birds above 21# out here - higher price per pound for the bigger birds.
This year I am going to try a maple/butter coating for the skin to see if I can get a richer look on the bird.
I love turkey on the egg.

I usually do two now and a couple of prime ribs. Big crowd at Christmas. Thanksgiving isn't mine.

Great posts as always.
A little cherry wood will also add to your color.

Great night to you.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas
