    Here's what I did:

    1. Sand with very fine sand paper, wipe it down with damp towel to remove dust and let it dry.

    2. Apply a coat of Spar Urethane (I used Helmsman Indoor/Outdoor Clear Gloss) and let it dry completely (4 to 6 hours maybe longer)

    3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 

    4. Should give it 3 or 4 total coats, worked great on my cypress table
