Buckhall- Nice Job!
I quickly threw this together in about 3 minutes before a cook. I plan on remaking one that looks a bit more professional but thought I would share this with everyone.
I was tired of grabbing the small handle on the DMFT and brushing my fingers against the hot iron. I especially hated it when the cap would swing open and the DMFT would rock burning my fingers. So I decided to make a larger handle to prevent this minor inconveinence. In this picture I lined up the old handle so you can see the difference. The spiral grip was from a neighbor's grill he was throwing out. He had two of them and I liked their size compared to the small BGE one. I will use the other one as a handle on a homemade wiggle rod I still need to make.
212F = 100C There is a big 100 you can line it up with on the celsius side of the thermometer.Griffin said:Thatgrimguy said:Can you adjust the therm or do you just replace it?
There is a nut on the back that you can turn to move the needle up or down. You don't have to be 100% accurate, but try and get it to where it reads 210 in boiling water. I don't know about you, but mine doesn't have a mark for 212 and I'm not sure exactly what my elevation is anyways. 210 is good enough for me.
Made some bacon this past weekend and thought about taking some pics while I was packaging it. So here they are. I did 10 lbs with brown sugar and maple syrup. We ate about 3 already (6 in the house) so this is whats left. After trying to cut the first 5 lbs with a knife, I had my local deli cut the rest. Much more consistent but I did not do a horrible job, mine was a bit thicker though. Smoked it with apple wood.
All three of my boys told me it was the best bacon they ever had and my wife told them that she was old and it was the best bacon she has ever had. I thought it came out well but I am not a bacon connoisseur (for health reasons) so I appreciated their comments. My two boys (9 and 10) want to do the next batch. So I may get 20lbs this weekend and start the process again. I have a few employees at the office who want some and obviously need some more for the house as I do not see this batch lasting very long.
I finished up coaching my son's baseball game last night and when I got home this was waiting for me next to my beer fridge. My neighbor made it and runs a small business producing things like this. He saw my egg in its table and thought it needed something. I am not sure if I am going to mount it on the table or hang it in the grilling area. I still think its pretty cool.
