    You guys should really take it easy. Did he break a rule? Sure. Did he lie and try to promote a product like Mr. Mangrate? No. At least he's honest.

    How about we have a little respect and ease off on the unprovoked name calling? You're grown ups, and it's just a BBQ forum. Jeese people.

    I agree with most of what everyone above has said.  Here are my thoughts on an individual basis:

    (1) Between 600-900 is plenty hot for searing.  I don't see any need to go higher.  
    (2) There is no point in closing the lid while searing.  You are going for the direct heat from the flame, not any convection.  This also helps your temp to drop much more quickly when doing TREX.
    (3) One chunk is enough, and it should be added when roasting
    (4) I roast at 350-375 using a raised indirect setup. When doing XERT, I pull at around 105-110.

    1-1.5 hours is a good estimate. Plan to finish a few hours early and FTC to keep it hot. Leaving yourself plenty of wiggle room time wise will lower your stress level significantly.

    He didn't say that the cooks didn't deserve to be in the raffle (which they obviously do). He said he didn't feel like he got what was advertised.  He probably also didn't realize that the cooks have to put up that much money.  No reason to thump him IMO.
