  • Went to a new nice restaurant in town...

    Everyone has been RAVING about this place since it opened about 2-3 months ago. Thought I would try the flank steak. I was NOT impressed at ALL. Don't get me wrong, it was good, but I can cook flank steak 10x better than what that chef was doing. Also, my potatoes were slightly underdone. Definitely not worth the $40 I paid*. (*I got frog legs too). Plus I left hungry, though that may be due to my... "Healthy" appetite. All that to say, the egg is one of the best investments I've ever made. If any of you are on the fence about getting one for Christmas, just go for it. I've had mine for 3 years now and have not regretted it a single moment.

    Update: I borrowed a traeger from a friend since there wasn't any electric smokers that I liked in our little town. Nonetheless the traeger is ok. It's proprietary fuel (pellets) really aggravates me, since there's no dealers that sell them near us. There is absolutely NO CONTEST when comparing with the egg. I cooked 3 butts yesterday, and the flavor was ok, but there was no bark. I wouldn't even think of attempting a brisket on it. It really may best best for them to get an egg.

  • Cherry wood table (lots of pics)

    Here's some pics of the table my dad and I have been building all week while I'm visiting for thanksgiving. Not totally finished yet, but I'll be putting the polyurethane on tomorrow. It's been a great project for us to spend some time together and just give him something to do since he's retired now.

    We're by no means master craftsmen, but I'm pleased with the results. I'll try to get a final pic tomorrow.

    ** Btw, We took this from whole tree to final product - we cut this lumber about 15 years ago with our wood mizer sawmill we used to own. Kinda neat seeing it go from tree to final form.
