Egging a 14lbs turkey vertically and after 2 hours at 350 internal temps are reading over 165. Does that sound right? Can it really be done this quickly?
Thanks.
Thanks.

165 in breast or in thigh? Normally it takes about 15 to 20 minutes per pound so 2 hours sounds funny. Has your dome thermometer been calibrated lately?Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

That sounds really fast. You want 165 in the breasts and 180 in the thighs. If you don't trust your thermo remember the old standby tests, juices run clear, leg bones wiggle easily

I got a thermopen. Breast reading 186 and thighs are 176.
Juices are clear. It's only a 14 pounder in a XL egg. Maybe that has something to do with it. But you guys are right, it does seem fast. -

then I'll ask again - did you calibrate your dome thermometer - sounds like you nuked that bird at something higher than 350.Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

I've never calibrated the dome thermometer. I was thinking about it a while back and read the discussion on here about it. It's been accurate for my other cooks (butts and briskets) so I never did.
The turkey turned out really juicy and everyone loved it. -
Glad it worked out for you, but you should calibrate, if only for your own assurance
