When the Campin' Eggers went to Lake Hartwell, Pork Butt Mike cooked a honey turkey breast. So when our freezer door didn't shut the day one of the items to partially defrost was a 15# turkey...so today I cooked a Poot Butt Honey Turkey....I rubbed the turkey with butter & spices (ala Mad Max), salt & pepper. I cooked it on the large BGE at 310 until the breast was 160 and the thigh was 185. At various intervals I poured white wine on the turkey and basted it in wine & butter...the last 20 minutes I poured 12 oz of honey over the turkey and basted it several times. The gravy was mildly sweet and great on the turkey. I will do this again. Here are some pics:

YUM! That looks so good. LOVE the blackeyed peas. Getting a hankering to do a turkey soon. The honey glaze is interesting.
-
Cousin to the black eyed pea...they are field peas....but just as good.

Aha, are those similar to purple hole peas? Bought some fresh at a farmer's market while visiting my brother in Oklahoma last summer. Smuggled them home in my suitcase. They were delicious.
-
Purple hull...and yes they are very similar...
-
Ok, cracking myself up. Of course it is purple hull.

man, if that ain't great comfort food for a Sunday.
I can see a tried and true, blue plate special in your future.....open face turkey sammie and smashers, all smothered in gravy.....
I sure miss the old, main street, drug store diner with seating at the counter of course......twww.ceramicgrillstore.com ACGP, Inc. -
Kim, that certainly is a yummy looking turkey. You and Ginny have been cooking overtime after your freezer fiasco.

I am already looking forward to tomorrow's turkey sandwich...
