I'm about to try my first pizza. How long does the pizza stone need to warm up? I plan on a dome temp of 550.

When you light the BGE put your stone on and when it hits 550 and stabilizes your good. When you can hold a consistant Temp. its hot and ready to go! Good luck

An hour after you hit 550*.

Thanks much. I wasn't sure how long it would take the stone to heat up.

i let mine preheat about 30 minutes or so... I light, put in the platesetter and stone, close the lid, and stabilize the temps on the way up...

Kirk...Get your set-up ready as soon as you know your fire is going. Let the stone come up to temp along with the Egg, then there is never a question. 550* is a perfect temp for pizza IMHO. Have had great success at that temp, while pizza toppings cook through as well as a nice crisp crust.
Advice for first time....don't try to pile on your toppings! Just take it easy till you get the hang of it. -
Thanks for all the help. I must admit I had a little trouble with the first pizza, got stuck going onto the stone and landed in a lump, kind of like a Stromboli with mumps. Surprisingly, taste wise it was great. The second pizza was perfect and looking forward to many more.
