I was lucky enough to receive a Large Big Green Egg for Christmas as well! Came with the Eggcessories kit and 2 bags of Ozark Oak Lump as well. Santa must have mixed up the address because there was no way that I've been that good this year.
I assembled it last night and I'm tasked with cooking dinner tonight.
Tonight's menu will include thick-cut pork chops grilled on the egg with beans and grilled asparagus (gotta have those greens).
I will post pics later so y'all can check out the maiden voyage... I'm looking forward to it!

Hey Johnny, congrats on the egg and good luck with the first cook. I'm on cook #8 and loving it. Even the stuff I mess up is pretty good. :P

Not sure if you have any idea what you are getting yourself into, but glad to have you aboard!! Best of luck with the chops, and welcome.

Johnny: Here's a simple suggestion for your pork chops:
Run the egg up to maybe 500°F dome, then sear each side of the chops for about 90 seconds. Pull the chops off, close down the vents to bring the dome temp down to 350 or 400°. While waiting for the egg to come down in temp, put a slice of lemon, and a slice of onion, on each chop; add some barbecue sauce and return the chops to the egg. Cook until about 160°F internal. All this is done using a direct cook. The chops will be fantastic.
Welcome to the cult. We do like pictures.

How did you get so lucky ? some of us have to PERSUADE our wives WHY we NEED
to get an EGG. They don't understand.........
Enjoy the new EGG ! Your mind will start to think,"what can we make next".
Happy New Year!

So due to life getting in the way (working late, walking dog, etc etc) I was unable to take the Egg on her maiden voyage last night.
By the time I was ready to fire it up it was already 8pm and the girlfriend was ready to eat and not to watch me light charcoal and prolong dinner 30 more minutes...
So I have no pics of my meal but do not fret, I will have my first cook soon.
To be continued!
P.S. - Thanks for the chops recipe uglydog, I printed that out and stored it for next time! -
Welcome!I'll be sure to tell my wife what YOU got for Christmas.
Have fun!
