the family(wife) wants standing rib roast for xmas dinner. I'm feeding 7 adults, and they all like meat.
How big a roast should I be looking for?
thanks

rule of thumb is one rib for every two people. . ..
-
7 meat eaters =7 ribs.
-
Maybe if they are all as big as you..
Max is correct. -
:P I LOVE MY Rib Roast!!!
-
Really who would have thunk it... :woohoo:
-
thanks, I'll go with 1 rib per person and throw in an extra for the cook.
-
:woohoo:
that's what I'd do, too :woohoo: -
Max is correct....1 rib per TWO people....unless you want to send everyone home with a doggy bag! (which isn't a bad idea either...but....you are doubling your cost as well) 7 rib roast is a huge chunk of cow!! A slice of one bone in rib will average about 16-20 oz per slice. That's a lot of cow per person. You could roast a 4 (even push it to 5) rib roast....simply trim off the bone after the roast rests, and serve it in nice 1/2-3/4 inch slices....and you will still have leftovers. Just my two cents, but don't want to see you with 4 lbs of leftovers.... :pinch: Cut the bones like ribs, and serve them off to the side for yummy noshing at the end of the meal.

I think Max said one rib per 2 people... But the choice is, of course, yours! Have fun with it!

1 last question, haveing never purchased a standing rib roast, does it have to be prime!
-
-
He said MEAT EATERS!
-
Exactly!! So what have you to say in this?? You are a LONEY eater!!! :woohoo: :P What do you know about real MEAT?? Love you too, Hoss.
-
Nope!Standing Rib Roast is just that.It only has to be Prime meat if it is presented as Prime Rib.Only Prime meat should be called Prime Rib.I would go with at least Choice called Standing Rib Roast. The Prime ain't worth the $$$$ difference unless you're out to impress. The layman will never know the difference. And you can serve 1 bone per person for the same price!!!
-
Only PRIME 'LONEY!!!
-
Not to hi-jack,but did you get the Old Dave Pastrami link I posted for you?
-
Nope!
