When is the proper time to put the platesetter in the egg? When I fire it up I use 2 firestarter cubes with cap and vent full open and close the lid. Adjust vents about 50* short of goal. is that when to put the platesetter in? or should I put it in as soon as I light it up?

Insert platesetter and any other items (pizza stone, drip pan, etc.) as soon as the fire is lit so they may warm up with the Egg.

Broker...We kind of go right in between....Once we know the fire is well established, but before target temps are reached. You will lose at least 100* when you put in the platesetter, so better to put it in earlier. But not so soon that the reduced airflow can jeopardize your fire. Just my two cents....

I'm in Little Chefs camp, when I use starter cubes I leave dome open till it or they burn out and the lump is going, then I put the plate setter in,close dome, wait for the temp to rise and start shutting the daisy wheel and lower vent to creep up on my target temp.
Regards,
Bordello -
I put the platesetter in as soon as the cubes go out.
