I'm wanting to purchase a paella pan for my large BGE. Can anyone suggest the size, material it should be made of, and where to purchase it from. I was thinking 16" but now I have some concern of the handles and whether or not I could get the lid closed.

A 14" is the largest that will fit in a large without modifying the handles. -RP

the 14 inch is a tight fit and may need some treaking, the 13.5 inch fits fine, the handles are big. i use the 13.5 inch model. were ever you buy it, you want the carbon steel with the dimples. pretty sure i bought from here

i should also mention i should have bought a couple. they are great to use as a drip pan, roasting pan, deepdish pizza pan, seafood casserole pan. steamer pan under bread, etc.fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

Thanks! I think I will order a couple and see how it goes. They seem to be inexpensive enough.

everyone goes for the 14 inch one, but the 13.5 is just a little smaller and is more practical for different setups. all these years and i still havent tried a paella in the egg, someday... :laugh:fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

eggsponentialpowers,
I have a "Typhoon" 15 1/2". It has handles that are paralel to the sides of the pan. That fits nicely on a large. Google typhoon cookware. I would do it but my internet is very slow.

Little Steven,
How long have you had the typhoon? Does the non-stick hold up well under use in the egg? I've been putting off buying a paella because they almost always have those huge "Dumbo Ears" styled handles. I really like the verticle handles.

BrewandQue,
Three or four years now. It is in good shape and it's had lots of use.

Hey Little Steven,
I googled typhoon and a UK site comes up. Did you buy it retail here in Canada?

Tom,
I got it a place called Golda's Kitchen in Mississauga. Don't know if they are still in business though. I think there was a link to a Canadian online distributor.

In the early '80's I purchased a Danish enamel over cast iron Copco. The total width is 16 inches, base 10 and depth 2 1/2.
They are similiar to Le Creuset. Copco is out of business to the best of my knowledge, but these pans show up on Ebay around $30 or so every so often
.
I also have 2 metal paella pans, but this Copco is great for many uses almost as good as a well seasoned cast iron pan. -

I have a metal one with dumbo ears, but solved the problem with my MAPP torch and a vice. The pan is 13 1/2 inches dia and with the ears out it would not fit my large BGE now the ears are vertical and works great.
