Just went out to get the newspaper and saw this weird looking mushroom had popped up overnight. I wonder what it is and if poisonous - not that I would eat it, but I have seen squirrels eat various mushrooms. guess if I find a dead squirrel today and the 'room is gone I'll have an answer!

RRP's shows gills on the top side.
there are a lot of unsafe mushrooms that look like real ones (remember fishless and the false morels? versus real ones?) -
send it to the dude that ate the pot of stew he left out all night. he said that if we didn't hear from him in afew days, then it was bad.
where is he now? :ermm: -
Just be thankful you don't have a yardful of these: "Phallus Impudicus"
They are growing in my daugther's lawn. She's worried about what the neighbors are saying. -
That's better than a single phallus impotentus isn't it?
-
Wow that's worse than this.

Hey RRP,
I asked an expert on line and just got a response from him.
"This is either an old Shaggy Mane (Coprinus comatus) or its closest lookalike species, Coprinus variegatus. See here for more info:

Alas, it is just too aged for me to be able to tell which it is from the photo.
