Rib membrane for arthritic hands
Options

Now that the cooler weather is kicking in my hands are aching and it is difficult to exert a lot of pressure with my fingers. I did ribs on the weekend and the babybacks were ok but the membrane on the spares was tough. I forgot about buying these a few years ago and what a difference they make. Slide the closed plier under the membrane to make a spot to get a finger in and use the plier to get a good grip on the ones that rip.

That is a great idea and ill ave to give it a try.
-
I know the feeling. It's hell getting old isn't it
-
Grabbing the membrane with a paper towel works too..
-
someone here lifts the membrane on the center rib only, then pulls both side from the middle where you can get your hand around it, maybe azrp?fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

Good idea Steven...I have a hard time holding onto things, can't even make a fist anymore. No pain tho thank goodness.

fishlessman,
I do it that way too if I can get through top to bottom without ripping it. That's when I run into trouble.

CW,
I've broken both thumbs and several fingers and just can't get enough pressure at this time of year.

good idea!! anything that helps out an old man like yourself should be good!!

That's my point. The paper grips the membrane and I just pull. No pressure at all. Hundreds of old fat (me included) BBQ champions can't be all wrong HAHAHAHA

That looks great! My problem is MS not arthritis, and the biggest problem I have is using my fingers. gripping membrane, opening ziplocks, turning pages in a book, buttoning my shirt,......
-
I meant even with the towel. You out already? Oh I guess it helps keep you warm on the cool parking lot nights.

oh yeah.....wow what a great solution for those with arthritis!!
is that better?? -
Yes it does...
I have a couple stove top Italian type dishes I make that that stuff kicked up a couple hundred notches.
I may have to convert the recipes to the egg. Now that I am homeless and all I don't have a stove top :woohoo: -
Steve,
Thats a great idea! Thank God it doesn't get that cold in Ventura.

If that tile on your counter still available and where did you get it?
-
Don't remember where I got it but it is tile and I absolutely hate it. -RP

Let me guess Kim likes it a lot :woohoo:
My trailer has to NSF. The outdoor kitchen doesn't, so I was thinking of tiling the counter and I don't have enough BGE Tiles.... -
I have seen some ribs with a membrane like you have in your pictures, but some have such a thin, hard to remove membrane, it just seems to tear into a million pieces and it is hard to tell if you really gained anything by trying to remove it. I have only cooked ribs once or twice, but would love to do it more often. I know there are several types of ribs, but I like baby backs a lot, and generally pork ribs rather than beef. Can you give me some tips on what to pick, and how to know when the membrane is a problem and when to leave it alone? Thanks!

I agree, but it beats the alternative :ermm:
