OT: striving for accurate thread titles

just a thought, but it sure would seem to make sense to strive to have more accurate thread titles so when searching the topics, it would be easier to find what you are looking for.

this not only involves accuracy in describing what the thread is about, but also correct spelling.

Think it's a puzzle...I got an answer. Don't like it but I got it.

my second post was a response to the first reply (i presume a joke) and was a joke.

the thread topic is serious however.

While I agree with your sentiment, there is a reason for it. Many people send email to other forum members via the "send mail" feature of this forum. A lot of times the email associated with the intended recipient's forum handle is either inactive or incorrect. Other times mail from the forum is blocked as spam by several large email providers.

Yes, it causes clutter, but in the grand scheme of things not really a big deal. The whole feel of this forum dating back to the previous version is that of a large chat room rather than a typical bulletin board.

besides spelling, how about getting folks to use these words correctly:

    advice/advise
    you're/your
    its/it's

and what about everyone using apostrophes everywhere except where they belong?!?!? what the dilly, yo? peep's puttin' apostrophe's where apostrophe's don't belong's.

and what about that idiot that never uses CAPITALS! (a favorite of mine. wait. that's me)

viz: "If you're (you+are) looking for advice regarding your egg or its use, it's likely someone will advise you."

    heh heh heh

let's not even mention 'fewer' vs. 'less'

16 responses already & none address the initial thread question which leads me to conclude that this forum is a microcosm of our dysfunctional planet :silly: eh, which is exactly why it is so damn fun here

"microcosm"? if you're talking about sundown, you misspelled it. typed an "sm" where it'd oughta be "ck".

  • I don't have room to talk because I am not the best at spelling or grammar. But, after a while on this board you get a feel for who does what. There is a poster who spells pretty poorly. I don't even bother with looking at those threads anymore no matter how good they are because the spelling drives me nuts. Then there are people like I think Richard in Florida or Bente who posts a lot of helpful recipes from sites they have maintained (amongst other helpful eggers).
