Large Table - Finish

I just bought a new large BGE and long table from Nancy in Oswego.
I'm looking for some advice on what to use to finish the table. Do I finish it right away or do I wait? I don't want it to turn gray so I want to finish it with something that looks nice.
Any advice would help. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone on the forum.

I did mine a couple of weeks after getting it with a Minwax stain and their Spar Urethane. It seems to be holding up well so far:

What type of wood was used to make your table? If it is cypress, I wouldn't do anything to it.
-
It's a cypress table. It would be great if it stays the same color without doing anything to it. I just don't want it to turn gray after it's weathered.

I have the same table and finished mine the same way Jeffersoian did his, from the advice of fellow 'EGGHEADS'. It looks beautiful and the six coats of spar urethane will make easier to keep clean.

Look for a protectant with high amount of UV inhibitors. Marine grade spar varnish or deck oil from a boat supply store will have the best UV inhibitor products.
Welcome to the forum! Your gonna have a blast cooking and eating the best food ever. I got a large egg from Nancy and yesterday I cooked up marinated spoon steaks and marinated turkey tenders for a post marathon picnic for friends of mine at our place. Everyone loves the egg! :woohoo:
Have fun Mo Daddy. -
Did you sand the table before and in between applying the spar?

You've got a lot more ambition than I do...I just put on three I'm hitting it with a few more before winter, however.
