I definitely can't handle removing the top, bands, etc. by myself. So can I get the old gasket off just as well with the lid up?

I removed my old gasket with out taking my XL lid off. Used a razor scraper and propane torch. Saving my MAPP gas for starting my egg.[p]Mike
