I'm getting close to having to buy my next bag of lump. What do you guys recommend brand wise? I did notice the BGE brand sparks pretty excessively. I seen where some people prefer the kamado joe brand over the big green egg brand as well. Any users have some input?
I don't think I'm going to use regular charcoal briskets in the egg unless I absolutely run out of lump and can't make it to town.

Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Plus a couple Pit Boss Pellet Smokers. -
+1 Royal Oak eggspecially when on sale. After 15 years of buying charcoal, every brand available here in Florida and a few when I go to South Carolina I have concluded that the price is the factor, like to get some around $.50/lb when possible.
Yes there are some sparks associated with some brands and a few years back I built a 1/4" wire shaker box to get rid of the smaller pieces but gave that up after several tries did not make much difference to me.
Happy Sparking for the Holidays! BGE brand has gotten very eggspensive down here. -
@Mickey - That's just mean! I WISH I had stockpiled like that while Ozark Oak was still available.Large (sometimes wish it were an XL) in KS

Lump discussions here are like politics and religion. It all burns and there are different characteristics to many. Eggsperiment with what you can find and go from there.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

Politics and religion discussions here stay more civil then lump discussions.

@lousubcap gave the best advice ... "Eggsperiment with what you can find and go from there." Mickey is just being mean 'cuz Ozark Oak is no longer manufactured. If you can't get it locally (within say 100 miles) or mail order it (second choice) scratch it off your list.
Washington, IL > Queen Creek, AZ ... Two large eggs and an adopted Mini Max
