Beer in chili

Trying out a smoked chicken chili recipe later today. I have not used beer in many dishes before, and this recipe calls for "beer". For a chili dish, does it matter what type of beer? I know I wouldn't use anything I wouldn't drink , but beyond that...any lager? stout?

You will need one with a good flavor. A nice dark works great a Texas RedLarge BGE, MiniMAX BGE, 2 Mini BGE's, R&V Fryer, 36" Blackstone Griddle, Camp Chef Dual Burner 40K BTU StoveBGE ChimineaProsper, TX

I'm sure some are better than others (wouldn't try a wheat beer). I used to use something darker like a Negra Modelo, or even a stout, but I'm not sure about a chicken chili. Good luck, post it when you're done, I'm curious.

I usually use Tecate or Corona. For chicken I would use Corona.

I'd stick with a lager. Definitely wouldn't use a Pumpkin IPALBGE 2013 & MM 2014Die Hard HUSKER & BRONCO FANFlying Low & Slow in "Da Burg" FL

Not sure about chicken, but I usually dump some Lone Star or Shiner Bock in mine. Whatever's on hand.

I don't add beer to chili. It can make it bitter.

A little bit of fresh cinnamon is a good secret ingredient. This was in the brisket camp chili.

The most important thing is HIGH QUALITY, FRESH chili peppers. There are many different types, and these can be hard to find. SWMBO is making some smoked brisket chili as we speak.

A little late on the follow up. Here's what I went with for the Smoky Chicken Chili. Was also first cornbread in CI. Wasn't bad, a little more done than I cared for on bottom but not burned...just slightly dry.--Because I'm like ice, buddy. When I don't like you, you've got problems.
