Traveling with a small BGE

Build a carrier out of 2"x4"'s and plywood.......cheap and it works great. People travel with eggs all the time. This is what I use when I go to fests or demo cooks.

And don't ask me who, but I was told of an individual who packed a small (broken down into it's components) into two rubbermaid tubs, padded it, sealed it and took it on a plane with him to Europe. Evidently, the sky's the limit. No pun intended. Of course. (Of course.)

John, my small carrier looks exactly like yours

I take my small camping all the time. It rides in is egg crate snugged up to the cab of the truck. I thake the guts out to move it. I also purchased a "pot lifter" To help pick it up. With the pot lifter moving it by yourself is a snap.

That design was floating around a few years ago.........I just copied it!!
-
Do you guys cook with the egg in the carrier or do you remove it before firing it up?
-
You can flip the carrier upside down and place the egg on it. Works like a charm
-
great info but what is a pot lifter? have a new 5th wheel and limited space... also do you take out the internal parts to move it in the crate?

I use the pot lifter to lift the egg in and out of the crate. I take the insides out and then use the lifter to set it in the crate. I put the fire box and ring back in once i am done moving it. I have bubble wrapped the inside pices but found it was more of a hasle than it is worth.
At the campsight i just leave it in the crate and put the green feet under it or I take my nest along if I know I will have a nice level place to set a nest.

MarcusP we also bought the Small to take when we camp/go south for winter. However, we were more concerned about the actual moving of the Egg and wondered if we would be able to lift it to get it back in our basement of our fifth wheel. It is bulky to wrap your your arms around the middle of it and move it for cooking/storage, but not impossible. Our son designed and built what we call our Egg Carten. This aluminum carrier has handles that make it so easy for two people to lift/or carry. You can see his design in my avatar. We never have to move/lift it out of the Carten. Has holes for easy strap securing in the basement.

As @Mawger said, the Egg Carten was developed by their son for their small egg. Since then, lots of mini owners, including myself, have purchased them. Made from sheet aluminum and a terrific way to move your egg. I love mine!John in the Willamette Valley of Oregon

We just got back from camping in our RV. Took the small along, we love taking it, food is GREAT when we go. I just put the egg, guts and all in the back seat of the truck and seatbelt the little fella in there. I toss the nest into the back of the truck, so I have the complete setup. We won't even think about not taking the small with us.Large, small, and a mini
