Accessory Suggestions for Newbie

Greetings from Raleigh, NC. I have my new LBGE set up and I'm anxiously awaiting my first experience. I'd like to ask for your top 3 suggestions on any accessories I should add to my wish list. What is a "necessity" and what would be nice. First question for me is do I need the Plate Setter for indirect cooking, or can I get by with a drip pan.
Thanks for your suggestions!

My order of preference:
ThermaPen
Platesetter
BGE Pizza stone -
In addition to vidalia1 suggestion I would add a
wiggle stick from thirdeyebbq.com
an additional food grid for two layer cooking and raised grid

1.Adjustable Rig from Ceramic Grill Store with pizza stone and spider. (gives more options than platesetter)

2.Thermapen from Thermoworks

3.Dizzy Pig spices and smoking Wood chunksThank you,DarianGalveston Texas -
I've not been egging much longer than you - I got mine in Sep 2010. To date, my cooks have been at 325°F or less - my cooks have been of the "low-and-slow" variety.
So far I've not yet seen the need for a Thermapen - but I know my time is coming as I start cooking at higher temps and faster cooks.
For the low-and-slow, I've fallen in love with my plate setter and stoker (5CFM blower, pit probe, and two food probes).
Others here can do an over-nighter without and ATC, but I'm not there yet - I can't seem to get the grill (not dome) temperature to stay in the 225°F (as I learn more, I'm hoping that will change ). -
I would also recomend a small cast iron grid to set on the spider for searing.

Photo Egg hit the nail on the head. I very seldom if ever use the plate setter any more after getting the adjustable rig.
I use a drip pan ontop of the inverted spider when I want to cook indirect.
My most used accessories which I wouldn't be without and all well worth the money spent.
. Adjustable Rig and Spider
. Thirdeye's ThirdHand (grid lift)
. Thermapen
. Maverick ET-73 (would get the ET-732-newer model)
All the above items were used in the pictured cook as well as most of my other cooks.
Nice but not absolutely necessary - When I do a long or over night cook I use the Stoker and sometimes the DigiQ (have them both)

Having a good pair of high-temp gloves is nice. Welding gloves work well, I think there is something called a "lava-mitt" that might be worth looking into.
Thirdeye's wiggle rod and thirdhand. -
I'm a newbie as well. I've had my Large for about a year and got the platesetter in my original purchase.
If I could do it over I would go with the Adjustable Rig, pizza stone and drip pan for indirect cooks. But, I already have the platesetter and I'm trying to keep my accessory purchases minimized.
Although, I did just buy a Spider and can't wait to use it. I also bought the Woo Ring for a raised grid. I made one with Stainless bolts and a Weber replacement grid, it has worked OK but it is not high enough in the dome.
My .02 worth as another Newbie.

Plate Setter
Thermometer of some type with remote (Polder, etc)
Mapp Torch
Wiggle stick (buy one or make your own)
There is so much more but you will see that everyone has their favorites.
Happy Egging!! -
It's tough to limit it to 3 accessories. I've had my egg for 18 months.
Remote Thermometer (Maverick ET732 or ET73)
Wiggle Rod by thirdeye
Third Hand by thirdeye
heat resistant gloves

Looking at what I use the most. Its tough to name only 3.
1) Adjustable Rig - Great for everything
2) Maverick Probe - Most versatile temp device (instant read or leav in...). I also have a thermapen but i don't leave that in the egg like I can leave a maverick probe.
3) Pizza Stones and Drip Pans - Great for indirect heat. I have stones for indirect heat and one I use for pizzas. you can use the bottom shelf of the Adjustable rig for a stone and put a foil lined drip pan on that. You can just pick the whole rig/stone/drip pan out of the egg and drips go right in the drip pan... -
I'd hold off on Eggcessories and read the forum for a month or so. You will learn a lot about these as well as cooking on the egg.

Photo Egg got it about right. A year ago I went in deep. Bought most everything BGE put out. CI grid, setter, 3 level grid, stone, half stone, v rack, 1/2 raised grid. I do not use much of it nearly as much as the adjustable rig and spider. Bottom line: Adjustable rig, thermapen, small & large stone & spider with 8.5 quart CI dutch oven and you are there.
